CLIMATE
Gujarat is the western most state of India. Lying on the western coast of the country,it is continuously dabbled by the Arabian Sea. The main seasons experienced in India are summers,winters and monsoon. But the vast subcontinent experiences varying climatic conditions in different areas.The climate in North India has little connection with that of South India. In the north, the temperatures are in the extreme.
The climate of Gujarat is moist in the southern districts and dry in the northern region.
The Arabian sea and the Gulf of Cambay reduce the temperature and render the climate more pleasant and healthy. The year can be divided into: the winter season from November to February, the hot season from March to May, the south-west monsoon season from June to September and the intervening month of October.
The average rainfall in Gujarat varies from 33 to152cms. The southern region of the state has an average rainfall ranging from 76 to 152cms, Dangs district having the highest average of about 190cms. The northern districts have a rainfall varying from 51 to 102cms. The rainfall in the southern highlands of Saurashtra and the Gulf of Cambay is approximately 63cms while the other parts of Saurashtra have a rainfall less than 63cms.
The semi-desert area of Kutch has a very low average rainfall. Certain areas in Ahmedabad, Mehsana, Banaskantha, Panchmahals, Surendranagar, Jamnagar and Kutch districts face chronic scarcity conditions for want of adequate rains.
As the Tropic of Cancer passes through the northern border of Gujarat, the state has an intensely hot or cold climate. But the Arabian sea and the Gulf of Cambay in the west and the forest covered hills in the east soften the rigors of climatic extremes.
CLIMATE OF AHMEDABAD
Ahmedabad has a warm dry climate, except for rainy monsoon season during June to October.Summer seasons from March to May are extremely hot with an average mercury level of 34°C with extreme sometimes touching upto 47°C. Winter seasons offer a mild windy cool climate following the monsoon.
Best season in Ahmedabad for a comfortable tour is from October to mid March, during which period many Hindu festivals take place with much enthusiasm and celebrations.Deepavali and Navarathri are two attractive festivals during this season, the show and color of which no body can forget in a life time.Tourists are cautioned not to pay a visit to Ahmedabad during the hot summers,when dehydration causes much causality.
